Level 1/2 Cambridge National Certificate in Child Development (J818)

Course Overview

This qualification is for learners aged 14-16 who wish to develop applied knowledge and practical skills in child development. It is designed with both practical and theoretical elements, which will prepare students for further qualifications in Child Care, Health and Social Care, Psychology, Sociology and Biology.

All students will study three mandatory topics as follows:
Health and well-being for child development
Understand the equipment and nutritional needs of children from birth to five years
Understand the development norms of a child from birth to five years.

Assessment

R018: Health and well being for child development: Written paper, 1 hour 15 minutes (worth 50% of the qualification) Students will be entered in June of year 10 with the option to re sit in June of Year 11.

R019: Understand the equipment and nutritional needs of children from birth to five years: Controlled assessment (worth 25% of the qualification) Students will complete this during the final year of the course.

R020: Understand the development of a child from birth to five years: Controlled assessment (worth 25% of the qualification) Students will complete this during the final year of the course.
